Food drive to benefit Southeast communities

The Tongass Alaska Girl Scout Council, in conjunction with regional agencies and projects across the nation, is sponsoring a ``Day On For Service, Day Off For Hunger'' event. Food from Southeast Alaska will be delivered to the communities of Yakutat, Angoon and Kake.

Youth poster contest offers savings bonds

Savings bonds of up to $1,000 are being offered to the winner of the Alaska State Student Poster Contest for 2000.

The contest is for students in grades 4 through 6. The top three winners will receive savings bonds of $1,000, $500 and $200, respectively. The winning entry will be sent to Washington, D.C., for judging in a nationwide poster contest.

Posters can be presented individually or as a classroom project. The postmark deadline for entries is Feb. 11.

Charity raffle offers Anchorage home

Raffle tickets for an Anchorage home, with the proceeds going to assist the disabled, are now being sold in Juneau.

Tickets are $100 each, with 3,000 being sold before the drawing at 4 p.m. April 9 at the AHBA Home and Remodeling Show in Anchorage. The 1,507 square-foot home includes three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a double car garage.

Ten finalist tickets will be drawn, with prizes awarded to the nine who fail to win the house. Tickets are available in Juneau at Tab Time and at the ANB Hall pull tab shop.

The fund raiser supports Alpine Alternatives and The Simon Youth Foundation.
