ANCHORAGE - Canadian bootmaker Sorel said Wednesday it has agreed to become the title sponsor of the Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race.
The company's announcement did not disclose the amount it would pay for sponsorship of the 1,000-mile race between Fairbanks and Whitehorse.
Sorel is a subsidiary of Kaufman Footwear Co. of Ontario.
The German tire manufacturer Fulda had been title sponsor of the race for the past three years, but the company and race organizers were unable to reach a new sponsorship agreement.
Quest officials have said they hope the race can capitalize on Sorel's high brand name recognition. The company makes a high-performance cold weather boot, called the Quest, that's rated to 40 below.
The race begins Feb. 12 in Fairbanks.
