RUMFORD, Maine - Olympian Lars Flora won the 50-kilometer freestyle and Sarah Konrad took the women's 30K by 3.2 seconds Sunday in the final races of the U.S. Cross Country Championships.
Flora, of Anchorage, pulled away from Olympic teammate Andrew Johnson of Greensboro, Vt., to win in 2 hours, 8 minutes, 9.0 seconds. Johnson was second in 2:08.31.4. Erik Wickstrom of Fairbanks finished in eighth place.
Flora said he grew tired at the end of the eight-lap race.
"I kept telling myself, 'Keep going, keep going.' I got about a 10-second gap and then kept going," he said.
Konrad, of Laramie, Wyo., pulled away from Aubrey Smith of Seward to win in 1:30.22.4. Smith finished in 1:30.25.6. Kikkan Randall of Anchorage took fourth place and Kate Pearson of Anchorage was fifth.
