Juneau's Joe Tompkins takes eighth in Utah

Juneau monoskier Joe Tompkins earned a pair of eighth-place finishes on Jan. 4-5 at the Huntsman Cup races in Park City, Utah.

Tompkins competed in the giant slalom event each day, taking eighth.

On Jan. 5, Tompkins completed both runs in a combined time of 2:08.42. His run earned him 11 World Cup points for finishing eighth out of 14 competitors..

Tompkins, 37, started the event by taking eighth place in the giant slalom on Jan. 4. Tompkins' combined time of 2:50.63 was good for eighth out of 10 racers. He earned 37 World Cup points for his efforts.

Tompkins' next competition will be Jan. 22-23 in Korea, followed by World Cup races in Japan on Jan. 29-30.

Tompkins is a member of the U.S. Disabled Alpine Ski Team.
