Although I live in Sitka, my daughter lives in Juneau, and I was somewhat amazed to have her tell me that the one day Juneauites are given to dispose of their Christmas trees for free was the day before Russian Christmas.

With as many Russian Orthodox people as there are in Southeast Alaska, it seems that this is really something that should be taken into consideration when setting the date. Surely it could have been set for the following Saturday. In any event, I am off the Sitka Assembly now, but I can imagine the hullabaloo that would have occurred here under the same circumstances.
