Student Artist in the Spotlight: Rhys Coffee

Age: 10.

Grade: 5th.

School: Mendenhall River Community School.

Art of choice: violin.

Recognition: She received an honorable mention in the Juneau Public Libraries bookmark contest.

Reason: "I choose to play the violin because I thought it would be fun."

Experience: 5 years.

All in the family: Her grandmother plays the flute and is really good at it, according to Rhys.

Favorite artist: J.K. Rowling, Michael Hoey, Vincent Van Gogh, Lloyd Alexander and violinist Regina Carter.

Future plans: "I will definitely keep playing the violin. My mom and Dad won't let me quit; they say, 'You have gotten too far to quit!'

Sometimes I don't like practicing, but I like playing violin most of the time."

Future plans: She wants to be on the U.S. women's soccer team, keep playing violin and write a book.

Other activities: She is involved in soccer club, art, piano, Juneau Student Symphony, ski team and Heartstring Violin.

Wacky art: She believes the wackiest thing an artist could do is be normal.
