FAIRBANKS - A 58-year-old man died in a house fire west of Fairbanks, the fourth Alaska fire death just 10 days into 2009.
The man's name was not immediately released.
Alaska State Troopers say the man died in a home off Chena Pump Road.
The home was engulfed in flames at 4 a.m. Saturday when firefighters from Chena Goldstream Fire and Rescue arrived. The one-story home was destroyed.
Fire officials say measures people are taking to counter the effects of the recent cold snap likely are factors in the number of fires.
On Friday, fire from a wood stove destroyed a home in Salcha and a second fire destroyed a home in Two Rivers. Neither had fatalities. Both homes were outside fire protection districts.
