Back to school for lessons in diversity
S.A.F.E. Child Advocacy Center sponsors a new learning series, "Diversity Schoolhouse," which is designed to build understanding and respect between members of our community from all cultures.
Each month a representative from a designated ethnic, cultural, social or religious group is invited to talk informally with front-line service providers, provide information and answer questions. Discussions topics will include: dress and food-related issues, holidays, discipline, family structure, children's social activities and special needs.
The "Diversity Schoolhouse" meets at noon on the third Wednesday of the month at Gruening Park Recreation Hall. The January 2006 meeting will spotlight Tlingit families.
