Bill seeks to rename annex after late judge

JUNEAU - A bill has been pre-filed to rename the Capitol Annex in Juneau in honor of a deceased judge and former lawmaker.

State Sen. Kim Elton, a Democrat from Juneau, has prefiled a measure to name the annex as the Thomas B. Stewart Legislative Office Building.

Stewart was the secretary to the State Constitutional Convention, and died in 2007 at the age of 88.

Stewart was also a former Juneau Superior Court judge, and served in the state Senate in the first Alaska Legislature. Before that, he was a member of the territorial Legislature.

Lawmakers will convene in Juneau starting next Tuesday.

The annex is the former Scottish Rite Temple that was purchased by the City and Borough of Juneau and turned over to the Legislature.
