• Juneau-Douglas High School girls basketball - The Crimson Bears varsity team hosts the Dimond Lynx for a pair of non-conference games at 8 p.m. both nights at the JDHS main gym.

Saturday, Jan. 18

MEETINGS / CLINICS / ANNOUNCEMENTS

• 4-H Nordic Ski Club - The fifth year of this club for youth and adult skiers will meet every Sunday afternoon from Jan. 12 through March 16 at various locations TBA with club leaders Odin Brudie and Frankie Pillifant ($6 membership fee). The club has a limited number of pairs of classic and skating ski sets for rent for $20 for the entire winter season. Club leaders will help parents size skis for their children. The club only rents youth skis, adults must provide their own. If families couldn't attend the Dec. 14 registration meeting, they should call the 4-H office and enroll by phone. • Juneau Adult Hockey Association registration - Registration for the upcoming Juneau Adult Hockey Association season will close today. Players who have already signed up will be receiving registration packets that must be returned with payment by Jan. 14. The JAHA will be hosting a final open house for players to register and submit payments from 5-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14, in the Egan Room of Centennial Hall. The two-tiered JAHA league will have one division for beginners with some hockey experience, while the other division will be for more-experienced players. Both divisions will be non-contact coed leagues. Players must be at least 18 years old, have some hockey experience and be fully equipped to start playing in late January. Individuals younger than age 18 may be considered for the league based on experience. So far, 140 players have registered, more than twice the number anticipated for the inaugural season of recreational hockey at the new Treadwell Arena. The season is expected to start at the end of January and will probably be 15 games with a tournament in April. Info: Christopher Mertl, 586-3232.

• Arctic Winter Games host site delegation visit - The delegation is coming to town on Saturday, Jan. 18, to check out local venues for Juneau's bid to host the 2006 Arctic Winter Games. The Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation office has free buttons to support the bid. Also, signs supporting the bid are available for residents living in North Douglas between the Douglas Bridge and Eaglecrest Ski Area to hang on their mailboxes. • Youth open gyms - Meet from 8-11 p.m. on Saturdays (Jan. 18) at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School gym. Friday night youth open gyms at Floyd Dryden Middle School have been canceled due to lack of participants. Youth open gyms are free for students in grades 5-12. • Badminton open gyms - Auke Bay: Meet from 8-10 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays at the Auke Bay Elementary School gymnasium. All levels of play available for teens through adults.
