Juneau police, fire officials and state troopers reported:
A cab driver made a citizen's arrest of one of his customers around 10:30 p.m. Monday downtown. Police said a man, 33, was riding in the cab. When the driver told the man to get out of his cab, the man went "ballistic," police said, and punched the driver in the head. The driver called the police and placed the man under citizen's arrest. The man was charged with misdemeanor assault and lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center.
A Juneau resident reported the theft of a 1982 Yamaha 40 HP jet propulsion outboard motor at 12:35 p.m. Monday from Glacier Highway near Lemon Creek. The motor, valued at $2,500, is believed to have been stolen within the last two weeks.
A blue Nokia Cell phone was reported stolen around 5 p.m. Monday from the Augustus Brown Swimming Pool. The phone is valued at $160.
Parts of a vehicle were stolen around 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Auke Bay Ferry Terminal. Police said an 18-year-old woman left the vehicle at the terminal because she was having car trouble. When she returned the next day, someone had stolen the front grill and hood from the vehicle. A window was also broken and her stereo stolen. Damage and parts are estimated to be $1,000.
A man, 32, and a woman, 48, were taken to the hospital to rule out serious injury Monday following a two-vehicle accident around 4 p.m. near Old Dairy Road and Glacier Highway. A 1984 Subaru, driven by the woman, struck a 1994 Ford when she failed to stop at a stop sign, police said. Police said citations are pending. The vehicles, each sustaining $3,500 in damage, were privately towed. Bartlett Regional Hospital staff members were unavailable to comment on the condition of the drivers by the Empire's midday deadline.
Police arrested a man, 39, for violating a domestic violence protective order around 10 p.m. Monday in the Mendenhall Valley. He was lodged at the state prison.
