Former Juneau resident DeWiley Holeman, 86, died Jan. 7. 2002, in Longview, Wash.
Born to Clarence and Emma Holeman on July 19, 1915, in Ferndale, Wash., DeWiley graduated from Moclips High School in 1934. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1940 and earned a master's degree in education from the University of Oregon in 1954.
In 1939, he married Lorna Chellis. He moved with his family to Juneau in 1953 and was a teacher and principal at Mount Jumbo, Harborview and Gastineau schools until 1968. He was also principal at Nome Public Schools and superintendent of the King Cove School District before he retired from the Alaska school system in 1978.
He is survived by his wife, Lorna Chellis; sons Herbert, Bellevue, Wash., and Roger, Ilwaco, Wash.; four grandchildren, Eric, Ross, Amelia and Leland; and two great-grandchildren, Emma and India.
A memorial service will be held at the Long Beach, Wash., Super 8 Motel meeting room at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19.
