Former JDHS coach sentenced for stealing fund-raiser cash

I'm curious to know the rationale behind the front page story (with color photo) exposing coach Hamey's crime. Or any coverage at all.

On a list of "Alert The Community" transgressions, stealing $1,000 while suffering delusional stress is pretty near the bottom of that list to my way of thinking.

To see this kind of news coverage of a venial crime committed by a respected member of our community with a heretofore unbesmirched reputation is troubling to say the least.

When a prominent person with an unbesmirched reputation and who serves as a role model to young people pleads guilty in court to stealing $1,000 as part of a retaliatory scheme intended to embarrass his employer and his colleagues, it is news. - Steve Reed, managing editor
