Government accountants to meet

The Alaska Capital Chapter of the Association of Government Accountants will hold its monthly luncheon at noon Thursday at T.K. Maguire's in the Prospector Hotel.

The guest speaker will be Cheryl Frasca, the new director of the Alaska Governor's Office of Management and Budget. Nonmembers and friends are welcome to attend. Please reserve your lunch selection by contacting Karen Smith at 465-3691.

Coast Guard women's group seeks donations for 16th annual auction

The Coast Guard Women's Association invites merchants and individuals to contribute merchandise to their 16th Annual Charity Auction, themed "Millionaire's Night." Last year the auction raised more than $9,000, which was distributed to 22 local nonprofit organizations. AWARE shelter announces Women of Distinction winners

Aiding Women in Abuse and Rape Emergencies, a shelter for abused and raped women and their families, has announced this year's Women of Distinction award winners.

Merry Ellefson, Ethel Lund, Margaret Pugh and Tish Griffin Satre will be honored for the contributions they have made to improving the lives of women and children in Juneau. The awards will be presented at the 7th annual Women of Distinction Dinner on March 15.

Tickets for the dinner will be available by the end of January. All proceeds from the award dinner will be used to help adults and children who have been victimized by domestic violence and sexual assault. For more information, contact AWARE at 586-6623.

Sealaska Heritage Institute accepting scholarship applications

Sealaska Heritage Institute is now accepting scholarship applications for university or voc-tech students.

Applications are available to Sealaska shareholders and descendants at or by calling 463-4844. The deadline to apply is March 1, 2003.
