• Juneau-Douglas High School girls basketball - The Crimson Bears varsity team hosts the Dimond Lynx for a pair of non-conference games at 8 p.m. both nights at the JDHS main gym.

Saturday, Jan. 18

MEETINGS / CLINICS / ANNOUNCEMENTS

• Arctic Winter Games host site delegation visit - The delegation is coming to town on Saturday, Jan. 18, to check out local venues for Juneau's bid to host the 2006 Arctic Winter Games. The Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation office has free buttons to support the bid. Also, signs supporting the bid are available for residents living in North Douglas between the Douglas Bridge and Eaglecrest Ski Area to hang on their mailboxes. • Gastineau Channel Little League spaghetti feed - This year's spaghetti feed, dessert auction and early registration event starts at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19, at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School. The dessert auction begins at 4:30 p.m. with auctioneer Jim Reid. Contact Darlene Jacobson at 586-6823 to donate an auction item or dessert. Early registration for the 2003 GCLL season will run through 7 p.m. There is a $5 per person donation ($15 per family) for the spaghetti feed. • Juneau-Douglas High School indoor soccer mini-camp for kids - Join members of the Crimson Bears boys and girls teams as they host their sixth annual indoor soccer mini-camp on Martin Luther King Day on Monday, Jan. 20, at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School. The clinic is for boys and girls ages 5-8 from 9 a.m. to noon (registration at 8:45 a.m.) and for ages 5-12 from 1-4 p.m. (registration at 12:45 p.m.). The clinic costs $25 per player and proceeds go toward the JDHS soccer program. Players should bring a snack, water bottle and come dressed to play indoor soccer (please do not bring your own balls). • Raincountry Fly Fishers classes - The info about the "Fly Fishing 101: Learn to fly fish" classes listed in the Community Schools newsletter was incorrect. Tht three-day course will take place from 7-9 p.m. on Jan. 22, 27 and 29 at the Floyd Dryden Middle School library. • Youth open gyms - Meet from 8-11 p.m. on Saturdays (Jan. 18) at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School gym. Friday night youth open gyms at Floyd Dryden Middle School have been canceled due to lack of participants. Youth open gyms are free for students in grades 5-12. • Adult soccer open gyms - Meet from 7:15-9:15 p.m. on Fridays (Jan. 17 is 8-10 p.m.) or from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Sundays (Jan. 19) at Floyd Dryden Middle School gym. • 4-H Nordic Ski Club - The fifth year of this club for youth and adult skiers will meet every Sunday afternoon from Jan. 12 through March 16 at various locations TBA with club leaders Odin Brudie and Frankie Pillifant ($6 membership fee). The club has a limited number of pairs of classic and skating ski sets for rent for $20 for the entire winter season. Club leaders will help parents size skis for their children. The club only rents youth skis, adults must provide their own. If families couldn't attend the Dec. 14 registration meeting, they should call the 4-H office and enroll by phone. • Badminton open gyms - Auke Bay: Meet from 8-10 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays at the Auke Bay Elementary School gymnasium. All levels of play available for teens through adults.
