Youngsters invited to paint at museum

Young artists will be able to explore the basic elements of design and color on Saturdays in January with "Imagine and Paint," part of the Alaska State Museum's ongoing youth activities of the 2003-04 season.

Local artists will assist the youngsters in creating their own works. Images from the Alaska State Museum's collection will be used for ideas and inspiration.

There will be two sessions each Saturday, Jan. 17, 24 and 31. The morning sessions, 10 a.m.-noon, will be for kindergarten through fourth-grade students; and the afternoon sessions, 1-3 p.m., will be for third- through eighth-grade students.

Registration is required and is open through Jan. 28. Spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Students may sign up for more than one session, but they will be placed on a waiting list for the second and third session they wish to attend. Volunteers are needed for set-up and clean-up and to assist the students while they're painting. If you want to help or register a student, call 465-2901.
