If you think that your background isn't strong enough for a career that interests you, Stephanie Shirit, CEO and founder of Resource Associates, a recruiting firm in Las Vegas, suggests going back to school. "Re-educating yourself can be a good start. Or you can even go to a specialized company and start at the bottom again. Take a job as a receptionist, and show them you're ambitious, and learn the industry from the ground up. Show them you're willing to do the grunt work. It will open a lot of doors," says Shirit.
