Juneau needs housing, not another bridge

Letter to the editor

I am writing in response to the article "North Douglas crossing meetings to be held soon."

Sound off on the important issues at

I feel that the bridge should not be approved. There is no reason why should we spend so much money in making a few rich people more comfortable to get to Juneau. The main bridge is enough to meet the needs of transportation to Juneau. The new bridge will be a danger to birds and other wildlife, and will affect the environment and the pockets of our taxpayers.

We should use the money to built low-income affordable housing so the poor can afford to buy a home. There are many Juneauites who need affordable housing. Why not build small three-bedroom houses or have a first-time buyer program of $50,000 toward the downpayment of a new house instead of building this expensive bridge? In Anchorage they have the Anchor loan. We should have the Juneau loan to be used to buy a home. Please do not build the North Douglas bridge for the sake of our beautiful forest.
