Avalanche awareness seminar held Saturday

JUNEAU - The Alaska Avalanche School will present a one-day avalanche awareness and training seminar at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. The seminar is free and open to the public.

The training consists of two sessions. The first session, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., will focus on avalanche awareness and be held inside the visitor center auditorium. No experience is necessary to attend.

The second session will be a hands-on rescue training to be held outdoors. The afternoon outdoor session, from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m., is limited to 16 people. Participants interested in the rescue session should register by contacting Mike Janes at 523-8900 or by e-mail at aas07@mac.com. Bring warm clothing and food.
