Protect pipes from freezing during cold snaps

Posted: Sunday, January 16, 2011

Due to frigid weather conditions, the City and Borough of Juneau Public Works Water Utility offers the following preventative measures to protect water service lines from freezing.

• Keep water circulating through your pipes by leaving a trickle of cold water running in your faucets.

• Close the foundation vents on your house.

• Insulate and/or heat tape your pipes.

• Check that your drains are clear of all obstructions and debris.

If you think the pipes in your home are frozen, please call your plumber for further assistance.

For questions, please call the Water Utility office during regular business hours at 780-6888. For after-hour emergencies, please call 586-2165.
