The status of Alaska and Pacific Northwest ski areas include:

• Eaglecrest Ski Area, Juneau: Platter, Ptarmigan and Hooter lifts operate about 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Open Thursday through Monday.

Eaglecrest is reporting 1 1/2 inches of new snow at the base area and 5 inches at the top of the mountain in the past 72 hours. The base at the day lodge is just under a foot and 98 inches is reported at the top.

Runs groomed today are Easy Bowl, Williwaw, Otter Slide, Mother Lode, Sluice Box, Sneaky, Trickster and Sourdough.

For Nordic skiers, the Upper Nordic trail was trackset this morning and is soft and smooth. The Lower Nordic loop is closed.

The ski school offers lessons every day beginning at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and the cafeteria and rental shop are open. Call 790-2000, 586-5284 or go to for details.
