The Juneau-Douglas High School girls junior varsity basketball team lost 59-28 to the host Nikiski Bulldogs during Thursday's opening round of the Nikiski Tip-Off Tournament.
Nikiski's Karen Rabung scored 28 points to lead all scorers, while Juneau was led by Jillian Hahnlen's 10 points and Mary Rehfeld's seven. In the other girls game on Thursday, Laurel Creel scored 16 points to lead the Skyview Panthers over the Kodiak Bears 52-40. Juneau is the only girls JV team in the tournament.
In boys action, defending Class 2A state champion Cook Inlet Academy upset Class 4A Skyview 45-43, while the Nikiski varsity knocked off the Bartlett JV team 65-59 in the other game.
