Rehfeld, Heppner win Elks Hoop Shoot
Rehfeld, Heppner and four other Juneau age group winners qualified for the state competition, and the state winners have a chance to advance to the Pacific Northwest Regional and those winners will move on to the national championships. The Elks Hoop Shoot is in its 29th year and more than 3 million athletes from across the country will compete to be their age group's top free-throw shooter.
Rehfeld won the age 12-13 girls title, with Jesse Post second and Kerstin Kimlenger third. Heppner won the age 12-13 boys crown, with Justin Jones second and Norman Zura third.
Alison Bremner won the age 10-11 girls title, followed by Vernonica Lietz in second place and Lindsey Daniel in third. Brian Decker won the age 10-11 boys championship, with Sean Dunham second and Ryan Larson third.
In the age 8-9 girls division, Elizabeth Cordero won, followed by Nia Maake in second place and Charnele Landingham in third. Torey Franzen won the age 8-9 boys division title, followed by Eric Sele in second place and Dylan Baker in third.
