... Sons of Norway, for your support
The players and parents of the Juneau Reign, the Juneau Soccer Club's U16 boys soccer team, would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the Sons of Norway for their generous support.
When we began our fundraising effort for our trip to tournaments in Norway and Denmark this coming summer, the Sons of Norway graciously offered to let us sell soccer merchandise at their annual holiday bazaar and gave us a generous cash donation as well.
As we continue to raise funds for the trip, we are grateful for that early support and the kindness and enthusiasm the Sons of Norway board and other members have shown us.

... for help with the spelling bee
On behalf of Auke Bay Elementary School, I would like to thank the people who gave generously of their time to make the 2006 Auke Bay Elementary Spelling Bee a success. Thank you to Alaska Pacific Bank, Hearthside Books, Breeze In, Juneau Bowling Center and Subway for your donations. Thank you to our official pronouncer, George Reifenstein. Thank you to our judges - Robert Sowers, Valerie Williams and MaryAnn Swendson. Thank you to Betty Nelson for working with me all of the logistics in planning and also the day of the event. Thank you to Paula for setting up the sound system. Thank you to Zack Bursell for coordinating the distribution of certificates and prizes. And thank you to Eddy, the janitor, for setting up the auditorium to accommodate all of the students and parents.
It goes without saying, due to the assistance of the volunteers and sponsors, the Auke Bay Elementary Spelling Bee was a success. Congratulations to the champion, Spencer Lunda, who has won our spelling bee for three consecutive years now, and to our second- place winner, Dylan Williams. Both of these students will be representing Auke Bay in the District Spelling Bee on Jan. 25 at the Floyd Dryden Library.

... for buying UNICEF Christmas cards
I want to thank the many people who have bought United Nations Children's Fund Christmas and note cards over the past 28 years I have been selling cards as a UNICEF volunteer. KTOO, KINY and KJNO have been most gracious in reading my service announcements and the Juneau Empire has published many community calendar notices concerning where I would be selling cards.
I also want to thank Douglas United Methodist Church, Northern Light United Church, the Nugget Mall, Cha for the Finest and Invisible World for allowing me to sell cards at their bazaars and businesses.
Many thousands of dollars have been raised here in Juneau to help children around the world get immunized. The immunization programs have saved more than 20 million lives in the last two decades. However, more than two million children die every year from diseases that could have been prevented by vaccines.
