Former Juneau resident John Allen Waid, 53, died Dec. 20, 2005, in Redding, Calif.
He was born Aug. 4, 1952, in Juneau. He grew up in Douglas and attended Juneau-Douglas High School.
He lived in Northern California for more than 25 years, but always thought of himself as an Alaskan and considered the Juneau-Douglas area his home. His Juneau friends and family remember him for "his big heart," and his California buddies recall "his loyal friendship."
He was preceded in death by his oldest brother, Mike Waid.
He is survived by his parents, Gene and Ada Waid of Juneau; his daughter, Tonya Ann Swafford of Anchorage; and his son, Snowraven Waid of Juneau; his grandchildren, Lance Swafford of Anchorage and Mia Waid of Juneau; his sister, Linda Mercer; his brother, Gary Waid; his sister-in-law, Kirsten Waid of Juneau; his nieces, Wendy Mercer, Eldri Sierra and Katy Waid of Juneau; his nephews, Mike Mercer and James Mercer of Washington and Jake Waid of Juneau; and numerous great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins in Alaska, Washington and Oklahoma.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Jan. 21 at Northern Light United Church.
