The Rev. Daniel Doran, left, and his wife, Carol, pose for a picture in fall 2006 on a ferry to Skagway. Doran will be installed as pastor of Faith Lutheran Church this Sunday at the 10 a.m. service. A luncheon reception will follow the service. The community is invited. Doran has been serving the Faith Lutheran Church congregation for the past four years. He recently completed his pastoral studies and was ordained last month at Faith Lutheran Church in Sequim, Wash. Before coming to Alaska, he was a lay minister at Neah Bay, Wash., for 3.5 years. The couple has long been missionaries to Alaska, serving under the auspices of Alaska Mission for Christ. In Alaska, Doran has served as a lay pastor in Tanacross, Tetlin and Healy Lake. The couple were Vacation Bible School volunteers in Trapper's Creek, Anderson, Moose Pass and Juneau. Special guests at the installation will include: The Rev. Rick Twenhafel, new Alaska Mission for Christ director of Ministry; The Rev. Ken and Sandi Schauer, former Alaska Mission for Christ Director of Ministry; The Rev. George and Caroline Rakos of Funny River Lutheran Church; Dr. Denny Langston, director of Expanding Ministries and Congregational Services, Northwest District, Lutheran Church Missouri Synod; and his mother, Mrs. Kathleen Langston of Faith Lutheran Church in Sequim.
