Student Artist in the Spotlight: Katherine Wray

Posted: Friday, January 19, 2007

Grade: 6th.

School: Charter School.

Art of choice: drawing and sketching.

Experience: She started studying art in third grade.

Reason: "I like that art is creative and fun. I like paintings and drawings best. Sometime I'd like to climb the space needle to sketch the stars at night."

Her classroom teacher, Sheila Keller, says: "Kat likes art. She uses it as a way to express herself creatively, represent the story of her life and calm down when she feels upset.

Kat often blends words and art, creating illustrated poems and name tags. When classroom pets have died, Kat sends them off with a special piece of customized artwork. Although very extraverted and outgoing, Kat can be one of the most sensitive kids I know, especially to animals."
