Empire plays judge and prosecutor

Letter to the editor

Posted: Thursday, January 20, 2005

I'm sorry the Juneau Empire feels it necessary to prosecute and judge my son Aaron and daughter-in-law Violet St. Clair (Jan. 16 Empire, "St. Clair identified as 'person of interest' in two closed cases).

My wife and I have attended all court hearings, except the first one due to my wife receiving medical treatment in Seattle. All evidence presented was circumstantial; there was no physical evidence, only hearsay.

Our family will be relieved when this is all over. Then the Juneau Empire can quit playing prosecutor and judge.

We are sorry this happened to Mr. Drake. We would like to lay this to rest. My wife and I are raising our grandson; there are a lot of people who have been affected by this. Since this happened we have lost friends that we knew for years. We thank God for those who have stuck by us. We appreciate those who came to pray with us and those who have continued to encourage us through all this.

We will always love our son and daughter-in-law. We also loved Blake, our son's friend. It is always easy to line up behind people who are doing good, but it is hard to stand by people who have been accused of bad. If you believe in God, you are taught in church not to judge; you are taught to pray for all. I ask for healing prayers in all families affected.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Jackson
