About 300 people attended a ceremony Monday at Centennial Hall to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The event, sponsored by the Black Awareness Association in Juneau, was one of the more elaborate King Day celebrations here in recent years.
The audience heard prayers from local pastors, songs by the Alaska Children's Choir, dances by the Native group All Nations' Children, the reading of a King speech by middle school student Kerwin Washington, and a keynote speech by Anchorage state Sen. Bettye Davis.
