Occupation: Wilderness Ranger, U.S. Forest Service
Favorite outdoor activities: kayaking, exploring, hiking
Best outdoor experience: My job as a Wilderness Ranger.
Favorite outdoor memory: My favorite memory is summiting my first 14,000-foot peak in Colorado.
Close call: Forgetting our sleeping bags halfway through on a week-long kayak trip.
Favorite outdoor story: I was working at Pack Creek and was out with a group of 10 people when a sow named Pest with her two cubs came within 10 feet and then fell asleep on one of the trails for about 40 minutes. Then a second bear came and spent time on the trail behind us blocking our alternate way out, and we had to wait until one or the other bears decided to move on. The first 10 minutes was a once-in-a-life time thing for the group. ... But after 30 minutes, they all wanted to go home or to the bathroom.
