Juneau girls beat Sitka

Amy Neussl scored 16 points Saturday night as the Juneau-Douglas High School girls basketball team claimed a 42-30 victory over the Sitka Wolves in Sitka. The victory completed a two-game series sweep for the Crimson Bears, who also won 45-31 on Friday.

Michael Kohan added eight points for Juneau (7-1 overall, 2-0 in Region V-Class 4A), while Kari Parr scored five points.

Breanne Erickson scored nine points to lead Sitka (7-5 overall, 0-4 region), which has now lost five straight games after opening the season 7-0.

The Wolves were held to just six field goals on the game by Juneau's defense. Juneau trailed 7-6 after the first quarter, but led 14-8 at halftime and 35-17 at the end of the third quarter.

Juneau heads to the Anchorage area to play Chugiak on Wednesday night, followed by the East T-Bird Classic tournament Thursday through Saturday featuring defending Class 4A state champion East Anchorage, Wasilla and Bartlett. The games will be broadcast in Juneau on KJNO, 630-AM.
