TNT Coed Volleyball Tournament - The 2003 version of the TNT takes place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Juneau-Douglas High School auxiliary gym. The 10th-year non-competitive tournament is held in the memory of Ted "Norman" Dornbirer, a longtime coach and player in Juneau. Proceeds from this year's tourney will help pay the medical expenses of Ray Bradley Jr., who is awaiting a heart transplant, and Juneau Youth Volleyball programs. The tournament is open to players of all levels and costs $15 per player. Please preregister so balanced teams can be created. Raincountry Flyfishers fly tying meeting - Raincountry Flyfishers will hold its monthly fly tying meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23, in the Floyd Dryden Middle School library. Tony Soltys will demonstrate a fly for very early season Dolly Varden fishing in Echo Cove. Everyone is encouraged to attend, and new members are welcome. Raincountry Flyfishers classes - The info about the "Fly Fishing 101: Learn to fly fish" classes listed in the Community Schools newsletter was incorrect. The three-day course will take place from 7-9 p.m. on Jan. 22, 27 and 29 at the Floyd Dryden Middle School library. Juneau Golf Club's Alaskan Open registration - Registration is open for the Juneau Golf Club's annual Alaskan Open golf tournament that takes place March 3-7 in Casa Grande, Ariz. Events will take place at the Francisco Grande Resort and Golf Club near Casa Grande. Highlights include golf clinics, a best-ball tournament, putting competition and banquets. The event is open to non-tournament golfers, too. Lodging packages for seven days and six nights are available starting at $863 for a patio-level single to $1,360 for a tower-level double. Airport-hotel transportation is $40 single and $50 couple. There is a tournament fee of $125, plus Juneau Golf Club dues of $20 and fees for extra people at the banquets. Gastineau Channel Little League online registration - Online registration will be open through Feb. 10 for early registration, through March 10 for regular registration and late registration after that at the Gastineau Channel Little League's Web site, http://www.juneau.com/littleleague/. The secure Web site went live this month and parents can now use it to pay for their children's registration by credit card. Regular registration will take place at the Nugget Mall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays during the weekends of Feb. 15-16, 22-23 and March 1-2. The GCLL is open to baseball and softball players ages 6-18. Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation/American Red Cross lifeguard training - Course will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 3, 5, 6, 10, 12, 19, 20, 24 and 26. A mandatory pre-course session will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23, at the Augustus Brown Pool. Participants should bring a swimming suit and be prepared to take the required pre-course swimming test. Participants must be 15 years of age before the end of the course. HoopTime youth basketball - Southeast Shootout: The inaugural Southeast Shootout takes place on Feb. 14-16 at several gyms around town. 4-H Nordic Ski Club - The fifth year of this club for youth and adult skiers will meet every Sunday afternoon through March 16 at various locations TBA with club leaders Odin Brudie and Frankie Pillifant ($6 membership fee). The club has a limited number of pairs of classic and skating ski sets for rent for $20 for the entire winter season. Club leaders will help parents size skis for their children. The club only rents youth skis, adults must provide their own. If families couldn't attend the Dec. 14 registration meeting, they should call the 4-H office and enroll by phone.
