Several dozen Juneau middle-school wrestlers kicked off the 2004 season in front of a large crowd of vociferous fans Thursday at Floyd Dryden Middle School.

The Floyd Dryden Eagles faced off with the Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School Wolverines in the first of what will be a series of six meets over the next month.

The two middle-school teams will meet up again next Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Dzantik'i Heeni. The season's other meets are: Feb. 5 at Floyd Dryden; Feb. 13-14 at Dzantik'i Heeni (Juneau Tournament, including wrestlers from around Southeast); Feb. 19 at Dzantik'i Heeni; and Feb. 27-28 at Ketchikan.

The Juneau-Douglas High School wrestling team is off this weekend. The Crimson Bears travel to Ketchikan for the Region V-Class 4A meet next weekend.
