ANCHORAGE — The Army says a 23-year-old Fort Richardson soldier has been killed in a nighttime attack in Afghanistan.
The Army says Pfc. Renee Sinkler of Chadbourn, N.C., died about four hours after the attack on her vehicle late Wednesday night. Three other soldiers in the vehicle were not hurt.
According to the Army, Sinkler was in the exposed gunner’s turret of an armored MRAP vehicle when it was struck by a rocket-propelled grenade.
The vehicle was part of a convoy en route to Forward Operating Base Killaghey in Baghlan Province.
The Anchorage Daily News says Sinkler was married and arrived at Fort Richardson in January 2010 after joining the Army in August 2009. She was a member of the 109th Transportation Co.
The Army says her family has been notified of her death.
