Two bands will play a dance Saturday night to benefit the Juneau Montessori School.
"Hot Salsa, Cool Ballroom" will feature Salsa Borealis playing Latin American music and the Thunder Mountain Big Band playing music for ballroom dancing.
Lupita Alvarez and Bruce Botelho will teach and demonstrate the basic steps for Latin American dance styles and some specific moves for mambo, cha cha, salsa, meringue and tango.
"We're going to do basic things so people can dance," Alvarez said. "They don't need to know a lot of fancy moves to dance and enjoy the music."
Lorinda and Dan Kasner will demonstrate and teach some ballroom-dance styles. The two Juneau bands will alternate sets - Salsa Borealis will start at 7 p.m. and provide music for an hour of instruction. Open dancing will begin at 8 p.m. and each band will play two sets.
"Hot Salsa, Cool Ballroom" runs from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at Centennial Hall. Tickets are $20, $35 for a couple, at Hearthside Books and at the door.
