Juneau Symphony to perform 'Carmen' on Feb. 2 and 3

The Juneau Symphony, under the musical direction of Kyle Wiley Pickett, will perform Georges Bizet's "Carmen" on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 2 and 3.

The performances will take place in the Juneau-Douglas High School auditorium, with Saturday's show starting at 8 p.m. and Sunday's at 3 p.m.

Soloists Beth Madsen Bradford, Mark Beudert, Kathleen Wayne and Philippe Damerval will perform in the opera about the beautiful, hot-tempered gypsy set in Seville, Spain.

Pickett will give a talk on the history and context of "Carmen" at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at the University of Alaska Southeast Egan Lecture Hall.

The public also is invited to an open rehearsal of "Carmen" beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, in the UAS lecture hall.
