JUNEAU - Juneau delegates were honored last month for their participation and support of the Fourth of July activities for Alaska's 50th anniversary of statehood, including the re-enactment of the raising of the 49-star flag in 1959 as well as the Juneau and Douglas parades.

In December, Capital City Celebrations committee member Kathy Kolkhorst Ruddy presented Juneau delegation members Sen. Dennis Egan, Rep. Cathy Muñoz and Rep. Beth Kerttula with a framed certificate from the Juneau Festival Association and a bronze medallion from Capital City Celebrations.

"The entire delegation worked hard in celebrating Alaska's 50th, and we wanted to recognized that," Ruddy said.

The JFA certificates were signed by Mayor Bruce Botelho and parade director Jean Sztuk. The medallions are replicas of the original medallion cast at statehood, as directed by the first Alaska State Legislature, with a minor change - the addition of "2009." They carry the map of Alaska superimposed over the first 48 states, and the reverse side bears the State of Alaska seal.

Ruddy also presented the delegation with copies of the cookbook "El Mundo," by Andres Aquino Cadiente, which were donated to Capital City Celebrations by the Cadiente family in honor of the 50th anniversary of statehood. The cookbook includes a dedication by Gov. Bill Egan, father of Sen. Dennis Egan.
