JUNEAU - The Thunder Mountain High School rifle team was awarded $3,048.37 to help buy supplies for the rifle team. Thunder Mountain has opened the opportunity to Juneau-Douglas High School students to participate as well.
The team's first meeting at the indoor range consisted of 10 students from both schools. Bruce Bowler, Ernie Mueller and Kathy McCasland gave us the First Step Safety Course instruction.
The rifle teams have been given donations of shooting jackets from the Alaska National Guard, .22 rifles from Bethel's shooting team and a special .22 rifle donated by WaynFleek.
The team meets three times a week from November to February at the indoor range to work on skills and knowledge of shooting in the prone, kneeling and standing positions. The team has provided a wonderful opportunity for our youth to participate in a different type of an activity.
