JUNEAU - K3 radio stations are holding two fundraising events for Partner in Health's Haiti relief efforts.
For the first event, KXLL - Excellent Radio will present an all-ages Reggae Sunsplash at 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at the Juneau Arts & Culture Center.
DJ Lukewarm and DJ Gift will spin the best reggae, ska, mento, rocksteady, dub and dancehall. Dress in your best island gear; think dreadlocks and green, yellow and black.
Cost is $5 to get in, $5 beers provided by Alaskan Brewery Co. in the over-21 "Beer Beach." All proceeds will go to Partners in Health's Haiti relief efforts. Additional contributions for Haitian Relief efforts are welcome.
The second event is a two hour on-air fundraiser simulcast will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. Feb. 1 on all three stations.
Guests with direct connections to Alaska and Haiti rotating through will include:
NPR's Corey Flintoff, a former Alaskan who is on the ground reporting from Haiti now.
Amy Bracken, a former Alaska reporter who has been doing freelance reports from Haiti for various print and radio outlets since 2003. She's in Haiti now and scheduled to return to the United States on Tuesday.
Capt. Steve Wackowski, of the U.S. Air Force, who grew up in Anchorage and now lives in Washington, D.C., where he works at the Pentagon and recently from Haiti.
K3 stations are working on lining up other notables in the coming days. TV will broadcast the radio fundraiser on 360 North, so it will also reach a statewide audience.
