ANCHORAGE - An Anchorage jury convicted a 61-year-old man of first-degree murder in the death of his landlord.
Assistant District Attorney Paul Miovas said Michael Wagner developed a nonromantic fixation on Steven Key's wife. The woman suffers from a debilitating illness, and Wagner thought he could provide better care.
On Oct. 23, 2006, Wagner shot Key in the head with a .45-caliber semiautomatic pistol.
Wagner reported the shooting to police, claiming he didn't know the handgun was loaded. He was initially charged with manslaughter, but the charges were later elevated. Wagner will be sentenced in April.
