Fairbanks co-op market moves forward

FAIRBANKS — Plans for a co-op grocery store are moving forward.

Store space has been selected and a decision has been made to hire its first paid employee.

Planners behind the Fairbanks Community Cooperative Market see those steps as benchmarks toward opening the long-sought grocery. The Co-op Market has been envisioned and planned since 2006.

The next step is reaching a goal of securing $1.2 million in financing by this summer, which would give planners enough funding to complete the project.
