Alberta M. Johnson
Juneau resident Alberta M. (Jordan) Johnson died Jan. 24, 2000, at St. Ann's Care Center in Juneau.
She was born Friday, Aug. 13, 1920, at home in San Gabriel, Calif., to John Albert and Mamie F. Jordan. She graduated from high school in El Monte, Calif. During World War II she worked at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Northern California.
For most of her adult career she worked as a retail sales clerk at the Broadway Department Stores in Los Angeles and in Whittier, Calif., and also at J.C. Penney's in Montebello, Calif.
She was very active with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She also loved to garden, crochet and watch her grandson's sports games.
She married Cecil L. Johnson Oct. 6, 1945, after they met at a USO dance. They had two daughters, Pearl F. Johnson and Adela M. (Johnson) Hamey. They lived in Southern California most of their lives, and moved to Federal Way, Wash. in 1984, to be nearer to their children and grandchildren in Alaska. She moved to Juneau in August 1995.
She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil in 1988, her parents and her brother Ensign Franklin Jordan.
She is survived by her daughters Pearl Johnson and Adele (and Jim) Hamey, and three grandsons, Jeremy, Christopher and Bryan Hamey of Juneau, her sister Harriet Mooney and her son and his family of California, and a niece and nephew in Missouri and Texas.
Services will be 7 p.m. tonight at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Juneau. Interment will be at the Washington Memorial Cemetery in the Seattle-Tacoma area.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name to the American Cancer Society, 1057 Fireweed Lane, Suite 204, Anchorage, AK, 99503, or to a favorite charity.
William M. Beezley
Juneau resident William M. Beezley, 75, died Jan. 23, 2000, at St. Ann's Care Center in Juneau.
He was born Nov. 21, 1924 in Dallas, Texas. He moved to Juneau in 1956.
