Juneau resident Kenneth Lawrence, 74, died Jan. 24, 2002, of cancer at his home in Juneau.
He was born to John and Dora Lawrence on Nov. 15, 1927, in Sitka. A member of the Kaag Waan Taan Gaech Hit (Wolf House) and a decorated veteran of the Korean War, he was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor and given two purple hearts. He was a member of the American Legion Post 13 of Sitka, and was a commercial fisherman until his family moved to Juneau. In Juneau, he worked as a janitor for the Juneau School District.
He is survived by his wife Mable Ann Lawrence, Hoonah; daughter Rachel Lawrence; sisters Jean Morrisey of Washington and Gertrude and Annabelle, Juneau; Jack Lawrence, California, Harold Lawrence, Washington, and William Lawrence, Anchorage; and many other friends and family members.
Viewing will take place at the Alaskan Mortuary from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26. A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at the Tlingit-Haida Community Hall in Juneau. A potluck reception will follow. Graveside services presided by American Legion Post No. 13 will be held in Sitka at the National Cemetery on Jan. 29. A time for these services will be announced.
