Student artist in the spotlight: Ella Rohweder
Age: 8.
Grade: Second.
School: Auke Bay Elementary School.
Art of choice: Drawing and painting.
Reason: "I like to draw with markers and stuff like that, because it's much brighter. I like that I can't erase them."
Experience: "Since I was five or four."
All in the family: "My grandma Marcia Rohweder really likes to draw cartoons and stuff."
Favorite artists: "I don't really have one. I really like paintings and drawings and stories."
Future plans: "When I get to be in the 20's I want to be a waiter. And then I want to be an engineer."
Activites: "I go swimming every Friday night. This Wednesday was my first time at Little Orcas (Auke Bay singing group)."
Wacky art: "Draw on a white board with paints and crayons and stuff."
You should know: "My favorite sport is skiing. My hero is probably my mom because she helps me a lot. When my little brother tries to roll off my lap, she catches him and puts him back on my lap."
Her teacher, Allison Smith, says: "Ella is a very creative student. I can hardly remember a time when she hasn't had a marker, crayon, pencil or paintbrush in her hand.
Ella is very creative and has many different ways of looking at the world. Her unique perspective makes her artwork stand out.
Ella is always asking me questions about how the world works and why we do things the way we do. Just today, she asked me, 'Which way does the Earth spin?' I didn't have an answer. She often asks me questions that I never thought of or that I don't have an answer to."
