A photo of Jean Keene that ran in Friday's Empire with the story "Homer eagles to be fed another 60 days" was credited to the wrong newspaper. The photo was shot by Michael Armstrong of the Homer News.
A letter to the editor in last Sunday's Empire incorrectly cited statistics regarding Gov. Sarah Palin's per diem payments in 2008. The letter states that Palin charged the state per diem for 300 days spent outside of Juneau, which is inaccurate. The reader was likely referring to an October story by the Associated Press that reported Palin claimed nearly $17,000 in 2006 and 2007 for 312 nights spent in her Wasilla home during that two-year time period, according to state travel records. Palin's work place as governor is considered to be Juneau, so she is elibible to file for per diem payments, up to $60 a day, when working from her Anchorage office and living at her Wasilla home.
