Miriam Cortes and Chip Wagoner announce their civil marriage held on Jan. 17, 2009, at the Baranof Hotel, Gastineau Suite. Reps. Beth Kerttula, of Juneau, and Bob Buch, of Anchorage, served as witnesses. Family and friends are invited to the couple's sacramental marriage to be held at a later date at a Catholic church.
The bride works for the Alaska Department of Revenue in the Appeals Unit of the Permanent Fund Division. She has bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Visayas in Cebu City, Philippines.
Former executive director of the Alaska Conference of Catholic Bishops, the groom recently returned to Juneau from Seattle, where he was a student at the Seattle University School of Theology and Ministry. He has a Bachelor of Arts interdisciplinary degree in northern political and environmental studies from the University of Alaska and a Juris Doctorate from Seattle University. He currently serves as a member of the National Advisory Council of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and member of the Alaska Bar Association.
The couple will reside in Juneau.
