Posted: Sunday, January 25, 2009

ANCHORAGE - A man fleeing Anchorage police was apprehended when he stepped in front of a moving squad car and was struck.

Police said 20-year-old German Castillo was wanted on assault and underage drinking warrants. Officers approached him Friday afternoon at the Inlet Inn.

Castillo ran and several officers pursued, including one who slipped, fell and injured his knee.

Lt. Dave Parker said Castillo ran into Seventh Avenue near the Anchorage Marriott Downtown hotel, swerved behind a stopped police car and then bolted in front of a moving squad car in another lane.

Parker said the squad car hit Castillo and "banged up" his legs but he did not appear to have any broken bones.

Parker said Castillo may face an additional charge of resisting arrest.
