James Russell Osborne Jr.

James Russell Osborne Jr. died Jan. 14, 2011, at his home in Hoonah.

James was born Nov. 4, 1956, in Hoonah. He served in the Army National Guard and received military training at Fort Benning, Ga. He was honorably discharged. James worked with Hoonah Cold Storage, and Juneau Cold storage as a laborer and in landscaping. He was a shareholder in the Sealaska and Goldbelt corporations and was also a member of the Alaska Native Brotherhood Camp 12 in Hoonah.

His hobbies included Native design painting, daily walks, berry picking and fishing. His family wrote he also thoroughly enjoyed the Raven Eagle walks and visiting friends. James was always willing to help out when needed, his family said.

James was preceded in death by his mother Mae Mary Snook Osborne; brothers Samuel Jeffery Osborne, Anthony Lee Osborne and Thomas Gregory Osborne; uncles Oscar Osborne, William (Rusty) Osborne, Thomas Snook and Jimmy Snook; aunt Martha Osborne Davis; grandfathers Samuel Osborne and Russell Snook; and grandmothers Fannie Metjay and Daisy Snook. Russell is survived by his father James Samuel Osborne Sr.; sisters Arnella Osborne of Anchorage, Marisa (Hubert) Lindoff of Juneau, Eileen (Eliort) Muwwakki of Houston, Texas, Sammie Baxter of Houston, Annette Esparza (Javier) Osborne of Juneau, and Vera Moller of Portland, Ore.; an adopted sister Diane Carter of Juneau; aunt Debra Dalton of Hoonah; uncle Rusty Snook of Craig; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wrote the Osborne family was adopted by the Dybdhal family of Juneau.

Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday at Alaska Memorial Park & Mortuary, 3839 Riverside Drive in Juneau. ANB services are scheduled for Jan. 30. The family will be leaving for Hoonah by ferry at 4 a.m. arriving in Hoonah at 7:30 a.m. Pallbearers are Antonio Osborne, Howard Gray, Hubert Lindoff, Harold McKinley, Victor McKinley and Speardon James. Honorary pallbearers are Ray Wilson, Don Wilson, Steve Sztuk, Johan Dybdhal, Albert Hinchman, Daniel Fredrickson Sr. and Michael Beasley.
