I'm just curious, regarding Josh Carter's letter (Jan. 16 Juneau Empire). If he had written the letter about the black community and used the word "nigger," would you have printed it? Or are the only slurs the paper finds acceptable the ones that denounce homosexuals?
Sound off on the important issues at
I guess as far as the Empire is concerned, it's just fine to print such ugly language about gay folks, but goodness gracious, don't think about addressing people in the first person.
And by the way, is there any reason the paper didn't run the fact that his letter was a satire on the day it came out? Or was the Empire just hoping for the uproar it knew would occur? I find it interesting that the paper ran a clarification in the letters section but refuses to run corrections to letters in the same section in which it makes the mistake.
