Police peacefully end early morning standoff

JUNEAU - After a three-hour standoff today, police nabbed a man threatening to kill himself and three officers, according to a police press release.

Around 2 a.m. police responded to a residence on Thunder Mountain Road where a man, 52 and armed with a rifle, threatened to shoot police when they arrived. According to police, a neighbor phoned them because the man had been threatening to kill himself.

After allegedly making the threats, the man barricaded himself in a shed on the property. Police did not release details of how they apprehended the man, who was charged with third-degree assault, a felony, and lodged at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center.
